SDTR Sponsors Singapore Shipping Association Gala Dinner to be Carbon Neutral
On 23rd September 2022, SDTR Marine Pte Ltd (SDTR) sponsored Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) 37TH Anniversary Gala Dinner, with Minister S Iswaran, the Minister for Transport, as the Guest of Honour, to become the Association’s first Carbon Neutral event. This event is attended by nearly 2,000 local and international guests, from different sectors of the global shipping industry.

Events like this involves lots of travel
and transportation, consumption of food and drinks (and waste), and electricity
usage at onsite venue, which produces large amount of carbon emission that is
not exactly something to be celebrated until now. SDTR proactively reached out
to SSA, offering to sponsor carbon credits to offset the total amount of carbon
emission from this event. The carbon emission amount is being assess and
evaluated by China Classification Society Certification. Besides omitting the
gala dinner’s “carbon tax liability”, SDTR support the Katingan Mentaya Project
(Peatland Restoration and Conservation) in Indonesia, whereby improving the
lives of the project beneficiaries, creating jobs and alleviating poverty,
through the purchase of the carbon credits.
“SDTR wants to use this opportunity to share and demonstrate to the attendees of the event, how we can reduce or offset carbon emission, through supporting international restoration and conservation projects via purchase of carbon credits. This effort is simple and easy and hopefully the shipping community can all come together to get more involved in decarbonization efforts.” Quote by Gao Dehui, CEO of SDTR
Being part of a globally responsible shipping fraternity and as part of SDTR’s mission which is to be a socially responsible shipping company, she endeavours to decarbonize. For the future, we need to focus on the environment today.
